Hi Everyone!
I hope the first two months of 2010 have been great ones for you and that the balance of the year will continue to yield you success. Here in the GGFA office, we have been diligent in refining current initiatives and innovating new ideas that can help you in your business.
We are very excited to present one of the newest projects…”The Voice”, the official magazine of the GGFA. Our goal is to bring you feature articles and informative columns from trusted sources inside our Brand and from the health club industry at large. The contents are designed for you and for your management and fringe staff.
In our first issue, Rick Caro – industry leader and research expert – shares information for you on competition. This will be a large educational initiative of the GGFA this year. Aaron Lieberman, Chief Development Officer of Titan Fitness (owner of 16 Gold’s Gyms), features the topic of how to prepare a cost analysis of your gym. Both Rick and Aaron’s articles will be of interest to owners and your senior management. PTonthenet, a GGFA partner, is the industry’s premier online education resource for fitness professionals. They provided an educational article that you will want to pass to your personal training department.
You will also find news, announcements and GGFA member spotlights to enjoy and keep you up to date. We have been very excited about our partnership with Club Solutions Magazine who was chosen to produce “The Voice”.
Please continue to support the Suppliers who support the Association. As always, I want to encourage everyone, more than ever, to stay informed, get involved, and support the GGFA. There’s a lot in store for 2010!

Fellow Franchisees,
With the Owners’ Conference behind us and a new CEO ahead of us, it seems like there is a lot for us to address.
We had a very productive Owners' Conference, even with the news of James Weaver’s departure coming in the middle of the second day. It isn’t my intent to recap the events of the Owners' Conference, but rather to emphasize the need for Franchisees to stick together as GGFA members. This serves a dual purpose, both of which attribute to the benefit of our entire Gold’s Gym Family.
First, when stability is reached at GGI, and I believe it will be, the GGFA represents an organized voice for the Franchisees in dealing with issues and for building the brand together with GGI.
Secondly, if there is instability at GGI, a strong GGFA gives Franchisees the mechanism for reaching out to other Franchisees for help and support.
We welcome the opportunity to work with the new CEO, Jim Snow, and we had a constructive first meeting in our National Franchise Council call on Tuesday, October 13.
We thank James Weaver for helping the Gold’s Gym Franchisee be better off today than we were a year ago. We fully expect our working relationship with Jim Snow to be a positive and productive one that creates more value in the Gold’s Gym brand for both the Franchisees and the Franchisor and helps us all to be better off with each passing year.
For those of you that attended the Owners' Conference, thank you. For those of you that did not attend, the Gold’s Gym brand needs your involvement.
Stay vigilant. Stay diligent.
Blair C. McHaney
President of the Gold's Gym Franchisee Association

What is the future of fitness?
Competition, technology and demographics will transform the fitness industry in our lifetimes, according to new research.
A year-long study by The Nielsen Company has created The Future of Fitness, a White Paper commissioned and published by Les Mills International (a Gold-level Supplier of the GGFA).
The White Paper foresees ‘easier, quicker and cheaper fixes’ emerging for problems like weight control, physical strength, wellness promotion and beauty enhancement. As technology and healthcare advance, the very definitions of ‘fitness’, ‘health’, ‘fitness industry’ and ‘health clubs’ may change.
Is this peril or opportunity? Decide for yourself: download the White Paper and join the on-line conversation at the Future of Fitness website.
